Suite Buenos Aires - New Tango Piano Duo
Pablo Ziegler, Masae Shiwa, Piano
The Grammy-Award winning pianist/composer, Pablo Ziegler started two piano programs with world-renown artists including Emanuel Ax, Kevin Kenner, and Christopher O'Riley. During the pandemic, a new piano duo with an award-winning Japanese pianist, Masae Shiwa was born. Both coming from a classical music background, this duo established a new program that includes the work of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla, and Ziegler's own compositions. Ziegler's brilliant arrangements for two pianos give the audience a chance to witness the great passion and profound intimacy between the two pianos. The duo performed at the National Auditorium at Kirchner Cultural Center (Argentina) as part of Piazzolla's Centenary Special Program, Sala Sao Paulo Symphony Hall (Brazil), Steinway Hall, the Music & Beyond Festival with a festival orchestra in Ottawa (Canada) and New Otani (Japan).
The U.S. premiere of the piano duo will be at Americas Society in NYC in the spring of 2024. Look for further announcements.
For decades, Buenos Aires-born, Grammy-winning pianist, composer and arranger Pablo Ziegler has been one of the most important figures in Argentine New Tango, the vibrant musical hybrid of classic tango, American jazz, and European art music. After performing in tango grand-maestro Astor Piazzolla’s legendary quintet for over a decade, and appearing on iconic Piazzolla recordings including Tango: Zero Hour, La Camorra and Central Park Concert, Ziegler has led his own groups for over 20 years, refining and reimagining the bounds of the modern tango tradition.
