Pablo Ziegler’s new project, Blues Porteňo, is a unique collaboration of his quintet with one of the most gifted jazz vocalists, Roberta Gambarini. Ziegler had a long career as a songwriter beginning with his 30’s, but his activities as a melody maker were briefly interrupted while he was touring internationally as pianist for the legendary composer and bandoneonist, Astor Piazzolla. However, his creativity and passion for composing beautiful songs never faded and he subsequently released acclaimed recordings with Denyce Graves and Erwin Schrott which included some of his signature works. For her part, Gambarini was twice named “Female Jazz Singer of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association and in 2008, after recording with her, Hank Jones declared Roberta Gambarini to be “the best singer to emerge in the last 60 years.”

Ziegler and Gambarini met at a private gathering in New York and each has admired the other’s artistic work since then. They share the same Italian origins and Ziegler realized they also have in common a similar level of emotion, sensitivity and musical identity. Thus, the new project Blues Porteňo was born.

“Pablo Ziegler…is inhabiting a completely new world, where the earth spins to the ink-dark rhythm of the tango. This is music at it’s finest, played in an atmosphere that is singularly free. This is Pablo Ziegler’s world, and it is mesmerizing and irresistible.”
